A LARGE LACQUERED SANDSTONE HEAD OF BUDDHA, 16th - 17th CENTURY
Thailand, 16th - 17th century. The serene face with arched eyebrows above heavy-lidded eyes, a broad nose, and full lips forming a benevolent smile, flanked by long pendulous earlobes, the hair in tight curls surmounted by the domed ushnisha. Mounted to a modern wood and metal stand.
Condition:
With wear, chips, and losses. Overall presenting well.
Provenance:
From a French private collection, according to the current owner acquired in 2006 at Drouot, Paris.
