GREAT BRITAIN. Penny, ND (1066-87). William I "the Conqueror". PCGS
GREAT BRITAIN. Penny, ND (1066-87). William I "the Conqueror". PCGS AU-55.
S-1257; North-848. Paxs type. Obverse: Crowned facing bust, holding cruciform scepter and with trefoil on shoulder; Reverse: Short cross pattee, with circumscribed letters P-A-X-S in angles. Quite an appealing piece that is better struck than most others we have had the privilege to offer in the past. Dove gray, charcoal, and amber patina all blend nicely across surfaces that are still fresh with mint luster. All in all quite a miraculous survivor of the past millennium that is sure to be appreciated by its next owner.
