A George II Provincial Silver Tankard by John Langlands, Newcastle, 1757


tapering cylindrical and on spreading base, with reeded band, the hinged slightly domed cover with scroll thumbpiece, the scroll handle engraved with initials 'I*N' 18.5cm high, 24oz 15dwt, 770gr Provenance: with Collingwood, Conduit Street, London, circa 1974. Fully marked near handle. Further part marked on cover with lion passant and on handle with maker's mark. There is some wear to the marks but in general they are still clear. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There are some small dings to the sides. There are no obvious thin areas but the tankard has perhaps been erased.
