Original engraved map, approximately 840 x 559 mm., includes historical text, with paper tape strengthening and repairs on verso, the border supplied in ink at one corner, old folds, unframed. [Paris], Dépôt Generale de la Marine, [1801?]. An undated French edition of the very rare separately published 1800 Arrowsmith map of Van Diemen’s Land, Bass Strait and the mainland coast from Westernport to Twofold Bay. The English edition was engraved from a draft sent to England by Governor Hunter after the circumnavigating of Van Diemen’s Land by Bass and Flinders in voyages between 1797 and 1799.
