Mercury Dimes 1916-D 10C MS62 Full Bands NGC. Coinage of

Mercury Dimes
1916-D 10C MS62 Full Bands NGC. Coinage of the new Mercury dime commenced much earlier in 1916 than did its Standing Liberty quarter counterpart. However, Denver Mint production was limited to just 264,000 coins, most of which circulated extensively. A quick glance at the certified population figures confirms that the overwhelming majority of surviving examples are only in VF or lower grades, with a glut of well-circulated coins in the AG and Good levels. Seldom is a Mint State Full Bands example offered outside of a public auction, and such coins always draw strong bidder attention.
This MS62 example showcases bold design definition with satiny luster that illuminates blended golden-gray, lavender, and pale amber hues. Fewer abrasions are present than expected for the grade.
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2015), lot 5002.
