A PAIR OF REGENCY EBONISED AND PARCEL GILT ARMCHAIRS IN THE MANNER OF THOMAS HOPE, CIRCA 1820 each 83cm high, 49cm wide, 56cm deep overall Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old chips, splits, losses and repairs Both seats have been re-caned. Both chairs with an original, dry surface - some flaking throughout to both the gilded and painted surface, with a higher concentration of this in some areas, most notably the legs (see images). The painting to the top rails and apron is original - the gilding set within the stiles to both chairs has likely been refreshed. Dark wash has been lightly applied in places, most notably to the aprons. The top rail of one of the chairs with a repaired section - a section of timber has been inset to secure and has been glued and painted to disguise.
